First quizzes of the year
The pub I usually quiz at on a Monday decided they would run it on New Year's Day and seeing as I wasn't too hungover from the night before 5 of us went down to give it a go.
The format is a 25 question music quiz followed by a 40 question GK quiz which includes 10 pictures. You also get two 'jokers' on each quiz which you write in place of an answer to get the point for it.
Our best music quizzer wasn't there which meant I wasn't surprised when we didn't win the music quiz.
We got 21, winners got 22. One we missed was an audio question asking for the group. It was the Saturdays. If it's not 80s or 90s I usually won't know it.
There was a question about which 2 minute long Queen song is their best selling hit in the USA. We suggested the correct answer but didn't put it.
We also missed a question about which pop star had a lesbian relationship with her assistant Robyn Crawford. No one had a clue on this and we eventually plumped for Annie Lennox.
Another silly question that we had no clue on was asking for a pop star who Boy George once described as a dwarf who'd fallen into a tub of pubic hair.
The other one we missed really surprised me. It was which decade were the Grammies first awarded? I was out by 20 years on this!
The correct answers were
The correct answers were
We Will Rock You
Whitney Houston
Prince
1950s (I put 30s)
The general knowledge quiz was better, thanks to good use of our jokers we managed 40/40 including me getting a cricket question correct! Fortunately I've been vaguely following the Ashes so England's captain wasn't too tough for me although I did originally put Alaistair Cook down.
So one win and one second place. Not a bad start to the year anyway.
Worst question of the quiz.
A multi choice one, which of these has had a number one hit in the USA. Donald, Daffy or Disco Duck.
Best question.
Possibly the Boy George question, we could have got to Prince with a bit of thought, plus one of our friends who didn't make the quiz is a huge Prince fan so might have known it.
